The California State University, Chico (also known as Chico State or Cal State, Chico known) is a state university in Chico in the US state of California , about 100 miles north of the Sacramento area. Founded in 1887, it is the second oldest university in the California State University system after San José State University . In autumn 2019, 17,019 students were enrolled.
