Mechuque is a Chilean island of the Chauques archipelago in the larger Chiloé archipelago in the Región de los Lagos .
Mechuque is the westernmost island of the Chauques group, lies in the Gulf of Ancud in the northeast of Chiloé and administratively belongs to the Chilotic community of Quemchi . It is a 45-minute boat ride from Tenaún village in Dalcahue parish . Mechuque is densely forested, 133 m high at its highest point and has a village of the same name on its south coast, which arose during the establishment of a canning factory for seafood, especially salmon. Mechuque is of tourist interest because there are various pile dwellings (Spanish: palafitos ), a small historical museum and a lookout point.
