The medal "For the Liberation of Belgrade" ( Russian Медаль "За освобождение Белграда" ) was a Soviet award during the Second World War in the course of the Belgrade operation , which also led to the conquest of Belgrade by the Red Army . It was founded on June 9, 1945 by Josef Stalin .

Appearance and wearing style

The bronze-colored medal shows on its obverse two open laurel branches that are crossed at the bottom, curved upwards and connected at their lower point of intersection by an implied loop. A Soviet star is emblazoned between their upper ends . In the middle is the semicircular, embossed inscription: За освобождение (For the Liberation) and horizontally below Белграда (Belgrade). The reverse bears the three-line inscription: 20 / октября / 1944 , (October 20, 1944), the date of the capture of Belgrade.

The medal was worn on the upper left side of the chest of the borrower on an elongated pentagonal fabric-covered clasp, the basic color of which is green. A black central stripe is woven vertically into this band. The associated interim brace is of the same quality.

Award

The medal was awarded to around 70,000 members of the Red Army who participated in the conquest of Belgrade.
