history

During the time of the occupation by Rome there was a place called Podium Fluminis with about 800 inhabitants in today's lieu-dit Poffiume. The residents migrated to Zilia and Ghiarghia and Podium Fluminis almost completely disappeared.

In 1509 the Alzipratu convent was founded. In the 17th century it was inhabited by over 20 monks. In the 18th century, however, it served as a base for the military in the War of Independence , which is why the facility was fortified in 1732. French troops used the base until 1752, when they left the island. In 1755, when Pascal Paoli took over the government of Corsica, the buildings were used by Corsican units. After the unification of Corsica with France in 1768, the monks returned and stayed until the French Revolution (1789–1799).
