The medal "For the capture of Königsberg" ( Russian Медаль За взятие Кенигсберга ) was a Soviet award during the Second World War in the course of the Battle of East Prussia , which led to the conquest of the city of Königsberg by the Red Army . It was founded by Josef Stalin on June 9, 1945. The award was made to all those members of the Red Army who were involved in the capture of Königsberg from January 23 to April 10, 1945. As of 1987, around 760,000 people had received the medal.

Appearance and wearing style

The bronze-colored medal shows the three-line inscription За взятие Кенигсберга  (For the capture of Königsberg) in the center of its obverse . Below is a laurel branch with fruits pointing to the left. A Soviet star shines above the inscription . The reverse shows the three-line inscription 10 / Апреля / 1945  (April 10, 1945) which stands for the capture of the city. A Soviet star is also shown above.

The medal was worn on the upper left side of the chest of the borrower on an elongated pentagonal fabric-covered clasp, the basic color of which is turquoise. Three black central stripes of equal width are woven vertically into this ribbon. The associated interim brace is of the same quality.
