Sprockhoff no. 822

The Steenhus von Werpeloh is one of several passage graves of the funnel cup culture (TBK) in the village of Werpeloh in the Sögel municipality , in the Emsland district in Lower Saxony . It originated between 3500 and 2800 BC. And is located about two kilometers northwest of the village (registered as Sprockhoff no. 822).

The east-west facing chamber is double trapezoid (widest in the middle) and well preserved. The entrance is in the middle of the southern long side. The chamber has a length of 16.5 meters and a clear width of 2.3 meters (in the middle) and 1.8 meters (at the ends). Two preserved edging stones indicate that the complex was surrounded by curbs and covered with a hill. The calculated length of the entire system including the edging is 22.7 meters. All chamber stones are present, nine of which are cap stones. The hill suggests an oval shape. Since the chamber stones are not exactly aligned , it can be assumed that half of the megalithic complex was built later and the access was relocated.

Nearby are the large stone grave Werpeloh II Spr.-Nr. 823 and large stone grave Werpeloh III (Spr.-No. 824) as well as the smallest passage grave west of the Weser, next to Klein Stavern III (two cap stones) with only three cap stones and a large dolmen .
