Medicoreha Dr. Welsink Academy
The medicoreha Dr. Welsink Akademie GmbH (also called medicoreha - Academy for Health Professions ) is a state-recognized college for occupational therapy and physiotherapy . history
In 1996 Dieter Welsink founded the company in Neuss in order to start on October 1, 1996 with the technical college for physiotherapy. On October 1, 2003, the vocational school for occupational therapy started. The professional schools for occupational therapy and physiotherapy are under the supervision of the district government of Düsseldorf.
In the years 2006 to 2009 the academy participated in the physiotherapy training and in the years 2008 to 2011 in the occupational therapy training in the model school project of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia . Since participating in the two model school projects, the recommended training guidelines of the Ministry of Health of North Rhine-Westphalia have been implemented.
The medicoreha Dr. On July 31, 2007, the Welsink Academy was awarded the first seal of quality by the German Association of Occupational Therapists (DVE). The "WFOT Recognition" certifies that the College of Occupational Therapy has met the training standards of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists. The Academy has been cooperating with the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences since 2012 in order to offer the joint bachelor's degree "Applied Therapy Sciences" with 26 places since the 2013 summer semester. As a state-recognized technical school, medicoreha Dr. Welsink Academy offers the training of occupational therapists and physiotherapists for 450 trainees, each lasting 3 years. Within both training courses, the participants can start with the bachelor's degree in "Applied Therapy Sciences". In physiotherapy, the shortened part-time training is offered at the Neuss Academy. Completed professional training as a masseur and medical lifeguard is required as a prerequisite. This shortened training takes place with a duration of 36 months parallel to work and is eligible for funding under the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG).
In the area of advanced training, medicoreha Dr. Welsink Academy advanced training and certificate courses in the fields of craniomandibular dysfunctions, Dorn method, sectoral alternative practitioners for physiotherapists, device-supported physiotherapy, extended outpatient physiotherapy, Fazer, cranio-sacral therapy , manual lymphatic drainage , manual therapy , Parkinson's syndrome, physiotherapy for dizziness, radiology for therapists, visceral manipulation and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation . Methodology and didactics
The basis for training in occupational therapy and physiotherapy schools are the scientifically sound curricula based on the recommended training guidelines of the Ministry of Health, Emancipation, Care and Age of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia State Examination Office North Rhine-Westphalia. In accordance with the training guidelines for occupational therapy and physiotherapy, the legally prescribed subjects such as anatomy, physiology, pathology and physiotherapy examination and treatment procedures are implemented in learning areas and subject-related learning units. This implementation results in a competence-oriented training with medical content as well as social and communicative skills. The goal of the training is the professional competence, which is based on the technical competence, the social competence, the personal competence and the methodological competence. During the training, the learners are qualified to become reflective practitioners with a high level of decision-making competence in practice. Both medical content and social and communicative skills are very important in the training. Within both training courses, the students complete practical phases in the rehabilitation facilities of the "medicoreha group" and in cooperating clinics.
In the "Applied Therapy Sciences" bachelor's degree at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences, a scientific approach is pursued in the training of therapists in order to acquire structural knowledge of relevance to the profession in health science and business administration subjects. Management positions are also possible for the graduates.
The online-based school and seminar information system is available for communication with other training participants and lecturers and for using digital training materials. In this system, applicants can apply online for an apprenticeship position.
Training content
Training in occupational therapy includes 2700 hours of theoretical and practical instruction and 1700 hours of practical training for patients. According to the recommended training guideline, the legally required subjects are divided into four areas. Learning area 1 comprises the core occupational therapy tasks, learning area 2 the occupational therapy processes, learning area 3 the target groups, institutions and framework conditions of occupational therapy work and learning area 4 the professional and personal situation of the learners.
The training in physiotherapy comprises at least 2,900 hours of theoretical and practical lessons and 1,600 hours of practical training on patients. According to the recommended training guideline, the legally required subjects are divided into four areas. The learning area 1 comprises the core physiotherapeutic tasks, the learning area 2 the examination, treatment and care of patients, the learning area 3 the target groups, institutions and framework conditions of physiotherapeutic work and the learning area 4 the training and professional situation of the learners.
Both in occupational therapy and physiotherapy, the students complete their practical training in the therapy centers of medicoreha Dr. Welsink group of companies and in cooperation institutions.
During the practical training, the students are regularly visited by the specialist lecturers and there are learning aids through the use of a learning diary , reflective discussions and documentation templates .
Cooperation with the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences
As part of the cooperation with the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences, the pupils can take the Applied Therapy Sciences course alongside their training or part-time after school. The bachelor's degree includes study modules from the fields of therapy and health sciences, business administration and information technology. The most important subjects in the course are the basics and methods of evidence-based practice, the theoretical models in the therapeutic sciences, the specific programs in patient health care, database management, clinical diagnostics and therapy, quality management , cost accounting , marketing and statistics .

The professional schools for occupational therapy and physiotherapy prepare for external qualifications: state-approved occupational therapist and state-approved physiotherapist. The state examination is carried out by the health department of the Rhein-Kreis Neuss.
The training-integrated dual study program at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences concludes with a Bachelor of Science degree after nine semesters of part-time study . There are currently 26 places available per academic year. The course begins in the summer semester (after six months of training at the academy). Within the course of study, the successful state examination at the end of technical school training at the medicoreha Welsink Academy results in the recognition of 60 credit points according to the principles of the European Credit Transfer System .
