The madrassah Kutlug Murad Inak in Ichan Qal'а , the historic city of Khiva is a madrasa in the early 19th century. Like all the other historical buildings in the old town, it is part of the UNESCO World Heritage .

Building

The madrasah was built between 1804 and 1812 at the instigation of Kutlug Murad Inak , after whom it was named. It stands opposite the Alla Kuli Khan madrasa in the east of the old town. The madrasah Kutlug Murad Inak was the only two-storey building in Khiva when it was completed and the only structure on which unglazed terracottas were used.

Kutlug Murad Inak ordered to be buried in his madrasah. However, since he died outside the walls of the city and, following a tradition, it was not allowed to carry the dead through the gates, a breakthrough had to be made in the city wall of Ichan Qalʼa for his burial . The tomb is located under the floor of the central vestibule .

There is a covered fountain in the courtyard of the madrasah . This was not only used by the residents of the city, but also by the city's population.
