Meduller

The Meduller ( Latin Medulli ) were a Celtic tribe in the Alps . Its name is said to be derived from medu (" mead "). Their settlement area was in Maurienne between Tarentaise (in Savoy ) and the Aosta Valley . They were known for metalworking.

They are mentioned by Claudius Ptolemy together with five other tribes. The Tropaeum Alpium in today's La Turbie (built 7/6 BC) names the Meduller in the list of 16/15 BC. In the Augustan Alpine campaigns defeated Alpine peoples.
