Medunefer was an ancient Egyptian ophthalmologist who worked in the 5th or 6th Dynasty, around 2500 to 2300 BC. BC ( Old Kingdom ) lived. So far he is only known from his mastaba in the necropolis of Giza . The mastaba is a solid building with a small cult chapel in the middle. The only decorated part of the tomb is a lintel. Medunefer is shown sitting there. In front of him is an inscription with his name and titles. Accordingly, he was, among other things, the king's acquaintance , secret holder of the palace , head of the ophthalmologists of the palace and doctor of the palace. Nothing further is known about his later life and little can be said about his exact dating within the ancient Egyptian Old Kingdom.
