Coordinates: 26 ° 35 ′ S , 118 ° 30 ′ E The Shire of Meekatharra is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Western Australia . The area is 100,789 km² and has about 1000 inhabitants (2016).
Meekatharra is located in the western half of the state about 650 kilometers northeast of the capital Perth . The headquarters of the Shire Council is in the village of Meekatharra , where about 570 inhabitants live (2016).

The Meekatharra Council has nine members. The councilors are elected by the residents of the three wards (five from the town, two each from the nannine and the peak hill ward). The Council Chairman and Shire President are also recruited from among the Councilor.
