Dolmen de la Nivardière 1 and the menhir La Drue à Gargantua

The megalithic complexes of Tripleville , west of Orléans in the Loir-et-Cher department in France, consist of the Dolmen de la Nivardière 1 + 2, the Menhir La Drue à Gargantua and the Dolmen of Prunay. In France, dolmen is the generic term for Neolithic megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).

The Dolmen de la Nivardière 1 (also called Palet de Gargantua) is located in the northeast of the village of Tripleville north of the D 137 road. The Dolmen of Nivardière 1 has a 4.0 × 3.0 m capstone that extends horizontally over a 3 , 0 × 2.5 m measuring rectangular chamber lies. The southern side bearing stones and the end stone are complete and in situ , while the northern bearing stones have fallen over. The dolmen is open to the east, with a view of the menhir indicateur about 80 meters away.

The Dolmen de la Nivardière 2 is poorly preserved.

The menhir la Drue à Gargantua (also called La Drue, la Quille à Gargantua, or Nivardière menhir) stands in the same field as the two Nivardière dolmens. The approximately four meter high limestone menhir is the largest in the Loir-et-Cher department. At its base lies another stone that could have broken off at some point. It is about 2.0 meters wide and 1.0 meters thick.

Prunay dolmen

The Dolmen of Prunay (also called Dolmen du Bourg-Neuf or Dolmen de la Nivardière) is located in a field south of the village, about 50 meters from the road that leads to Prunay. Not much more is visible than an approximately 3.0 × 3.0 m large stone, which is up to 1.7 m thick and lies on a slight rise, underneath a chamber could be hidden.

Nearby is the Dolmen de la Mouïse-Martin .
