Mehmet Tekerek
Mehmet Tekerek (* 1956 in Adana ) is a Turkish author living in Germany.
Life
Tekerek came to Mönchengladbach in 1972, initially trained as a printer and later worked as a reporter for a local newspaper. He has been publishing literary texts since the mid-1980s, the spectrum of which ranges from satire to political writings and poetry. Tekerek, who in his work throws "a philosophical-critical look at people's everyday life, their thoughts and feelings and the social system" (Press and Information Office of the City of Nuremberg), holds readings in both German and Turkish. At the end of 2006 , Tekerek, who has lived in Nuremberg since 1996, was invited by the registered association Reading + Writing in Berlin to a public evening of authors reading from their works in German and Turkish , at which Tekerek, along with other writers from Germany's Turkish community ( Halim Demirci , Israfil Yildizkan and Abdullah Eryilmaz ) should read from Her seye ragmen , among others . The bilingual event aims to provide access to the phenomenon of Turkish-language poetry by German-Turks, which is little perceived in the German literary scene due to the language barrier, also to interested German literary friends who do not speak the Turkish language.
