Abdullah Eryilmaz

Abdullah Eryilmaz (* 1958 in Turkey ) is a Berlin bookseller , author and songwriter .

Life

The son of Turkish farmers and nephew of a cinema owner received a liberal upbringing. Eryilmaz has lived in Germany since 1975, initially running a corner shop in Cologne , later working in snack bars, as a forklift, taxi or truck driver; For a short time, in addition to these activities, he was known nationwide as a "singing garbage man" due to a radio broadcast. In the early 1990s he moved to Berlin, trained as an office clerk and ran a bookstore there in Neuköllner Sonnenallee , which he later switched to mail order business. Through his bookstore he also offered numerous non-specialist services for citizens of Turkish origin, e.g. B. Help with bookkeeping . In addition, he brokered his clients as extras for film productions.

In the early 1990s, the bookseller published the bilingual music album Gastarbeiterlieder - İsçi şarkıları (1990) with his own texts and compositions about life abroad. Even today he, who had long been known with his songs within the Turkish-German community, is sometimes referred to as one of the leading musicians in the field of Gurbet Türküleri .

With Mein Onkel und seine Freund (2002), the bookseller published his first volume of stories himself. The bookseller's "ten warm-hearted, sometimes satirical stories" have "Understanding, muticultural coexistence, German-Turkish prejudices and how they can be broken down through practical experience" (taz).

The Berlin author often reads from his works. As part of the SummerLitorale at the Berlin Book Fair in 2003, he read alongside well-known authors such as Seyran Ateş and Özdemir Başargan , at the International Literature Festival Literaturk 2004 together with Yadé Kara .

The all-rounder Eryilmaz can also be seen from time to time as a theater actor: at the Diyalog TheaterFest 2003 he played in the ensemble of Tiyatro Düşün in the Turkish-language version by Jean Genets Under supervision : Gözetim Altında . Eryilmaz performs his own monodramatic works with sketches such as Drama , Der Pfarrer von Neukölln (both 2006) or Ich-AG (2005) within his readings in Berlin's Tiyatrom or as a cabaret with Torsten Gardei.
