Mehrdad Payandeh (trade unionist)

Mehrdad Payandeh (born October 7, 1960 in Abadan (Iran)) is a German trade unionist. Since February 3, 2018 he has been district chairman of the DGB district Lower Saxony - Bremen - Saxony-Anhalt .

Mehrdad Payandeh was born on October 7, 1960 in Abadan (Iran) into a trade unionist family. He completed elementary and orientation school, high school and high school in Iran from 1967 to 1980 . He lived in Iran until he fled in the summer of 1985, where he was politically active for workers' rights.

In August 1985 he applied for political asylum in the Federal Republic of Germany and was recognized as a political refugee in 1986. From 1985 to 1994 he completed language courses in Bavaria, retrained as a data processing specialist and worked for four years as a warehouse worker at Quelle in Nuremberg.

From 1994 to 2000 he studied economics and economics at the universities of Hamburg , Bremen and Simferopol (Crimea / Ukraine). In 1997 he graduated with a degree in economics and in 2000 as a degree in economics. He received his doctorate in 2004 from the University of Bremen and has lectured at the Universities of Hamburg and Bremen.

From November 2005 to April 2008 he worked as a research assistant for the now deceased SPD member of the Bundestag Ottmar Schreiner .

Since 2008 he has been head of the European Economic Policy Division in the DGB Federal Board Administration in Berlin, and since 2010 he has headed the Economic, Financial and Tax Policy Department. In this role he played a key role in shaping concepts such as the "DGB Marshal Plan for an Investment Offensive in Europe" or the DGB tax concept to relieve lower and middle incomes while at the same time strengthening public finances.

Payandeh has been a member of the SPD since 1988 . In 1990 he joined the trade union trade, banking and insurance (HBV, today ver.di ). Mehrdad Payandeh is married and has two sons. He has lived in Hanover with his family since 2005.

Mehrdad Payandeh has been the district chairman of the DGB district Lower Saxony - Bremen - Saxony-Anhalt since February 3, 2018.
