Anhalt milestone at Freckleben

The milestone at Freckleben is a small monument and ground monument in the town of Aschersleben in the Salzlandkreis in Saxony-Anhalt.

On the district road 1330 between Freckleben and Sandersleben there is a Anhalt milestone on which the inscriptions are only partially legible. The stone is located 700 meters south-east of Freckleben north of a railway bridge opposite a path junction on the eastern side of the road. The Anhalt round base stone still had the inscriptions Asch and ile in the 1990s . One can therefore assume that the distance given referred to Aschersleben.

Today it is about 10 kilometers away. Since a Anhalt mile corresponded to the Prussian mile and was 7.532 kilometers long, it was necessary to consider converting the stone into the kilometer system. In Anhalt in particular, the Myriamtersteine, i.e. the setting every 10 kilometers with the inscription in Myriameter, were particularly popular. The existing milestones were mostly used for this. Such a kilometer inscription has not yet been proven. It is also not known whether there was any further indication of miles, such as the distance to the state capital Dessau, which is often found.

The 90 centimeter high distance indicator was made from red sandstone. It is under monument protection and is recorded in the monument register with the number 094 90356. Similar to the stones at Roda and Warmsdorf , the history of this milestone cannot yet be fully reconstructed. in such cases, often only old photos or notes on the files can help.
