action

The film begins with the voice of the adult Oat, who tells of his childhood and the time together with his older brother Ek. When Oat was eleven, he regularly played checkers with Ek, but he loses every time. Back then, Ek is his great role model with an exciting job, a fast motorcycle and a good-looking friend. Oat's goal is to defeat him once in checkers so that he can go on a night-time exploration tour with him. When Ek suddenly threatens to be drafted into the military, the loving relationship between the brothers is at a crossroads. The little Oat tries to keep his brother by all means, but the state representatives of the drawing ceremony can only be bribed by wealthy families. Ultimately, Ek is out of luck and has to start military service. After one last checkers game, Ek finally takes his brother to the bar where he works, and they both have an exciting night that is an unforgettable experience for Oat. When the story of the adult Oat ends, he tells of his brother's death as a soldier and that Ek's life enabled him to escape the military.
