My young and carefree heart is the first studio album by the band Neo Rodeo . It was released on April 26, 2013 on Wallpaper Records in Hamburg.

Origin and recording technique

After Neo Rodeo signed a contract with the Hamburg-based wallpaper Records label in September 2012 , they began producing their debut album the following winter. The recordings took place from 6. – 10. December 2012 and 10-14 January 2013 in the Le Châtelet - Studios in Hamburg under the direction of Gregor Hennig . For the most part, analog tape recording was used for production using an OTARI MTR90 mkII 24-track tape machine. The brass parts for the pieces Alles was ich haben , Abrahams Bar and Not quite clear were recorded by guest musicians Philip Morton Andernach (saxophone), Gunther Buskies (saxophone) and Christoph Buskies (trombone).

Reviews

Pascal Bremmer reviewed the album with 8 out of 10 possible points and sums it up for Plattentests.de :

"True to the - somewhat reformulated - motto 'You get the cowboy from the western, but the western not from the cowboy', the troops here in the high-tech 21st century are driven by the desire for a free life. Neo Rodeo formulate their own little declaration of independence and declare for themselves the emancipation from circumstances, from the claims of others and a life whose only goal is the path. The five ride unmolested from there, towards the sun. 'So long!' - until the next adventure. "

Frank Schuster from GoodTimes Magazine headed his album review with the title Rock'n'Roll mit Milchmann and concluded his review with the following sentences:

“In the current boom of sensitive young German songwriters (Max Prosa, Philipp Poisel, Dota Kehr and others) the quintet brings a gruff tone and a good portion of rock'n'roll - in line with German artists such as Rio Reiser, Stoppok and Nils Kopagh (Finch). Instead of being romantic, Neo Rodeo are more oriented towards street poets like Charles Bukowski and Jörg Fauser, musically they are knee-deep in indie, blues and country rock, driven by distinctive broadside guitar riffs.
