Meinrad Ospelt (born December 10, 1844 in Vaduz ; † July 17, 1934 there ) was a Liechtenstein politician ( FBP ).

biography

Meinrad Ospelt was one of five children of Anton Ospelt (1809–1878) and his wife Salomea (née Wachter). He was a citizen of Vaduz and attended the local school. He then worked in his father's construction business in La Chaux-de-Fonds in the Swiss canton of Neuchâtel . In 1876 he married Katharina Boss. The marriage had five children. After the wedding, Ospelt worked as a farmer and owned a grocery store. From 1876 to 1879 he was the municipal treasurer of Vaduz. From 1882 to 1885 he was a member of the municipal council of Vaduz. He then held the office of mayor of Vaduz from 1885 to 1888. His father had already exercised this function, at that time as a local judge, from 1850 to 1857. From 1894 to 1903 Ospelt was again a member of the Vaduz municipal council.

Ospelt was a member of the state parliament of the Principality of Liechtenstein from 1886 to 1894 and from 1898 to 1918 . From 1902 he was one of the deputies appointed by the prince. From 1916 to 1918 he was Vice President of the State Parliament. In addition to his parliamentary activities, he was a member of the state school board from 1890 to 1907, from 1891 to 1919 lay judge at the regional court and from 1892 to 1918 district administrator . From 1898 to 1917 he was editor of the Liechtensteiner Volksblatt . From 1916 to 1925 he was an agent in Vaduz. In 1918 he was one of the founders of the Progressive Citizens' Party. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Liechtenstein Viehversicherungsverein and from 1923 to 1928 Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Sparkasse.
