Meinsberg was first mentioned in 1390 when it came into the possession of the Benedictine monastery in Döbeln. In 1544 Georg von Carlowitz bought the place. After his death in 1574, Meinsberg came to the Waldheim estate, whose owner, Georg's son, Rudolph von Carlowitz, went bankrupt in 1579. Meinsberg fell to Martin von Miltitz zu Scharfenberg. In 1588, Elector Christian bought large parts of the scattered property. In 1633 Swedes occupied the place and the surrounding area. In 1639 and 1706 Meinsberg was plundered and destroyed by the Swedes. The first school was built in 1813. During the Austro-Prussian War , the area was the scene of acts of war in 1866. Meinsberg was an independent village with its own municipal administration. The most diverse trades were located. The manor in Meinsberg belonged to the Rockhausen family. In 1888/1889 a wood grinding shop and paper factory were built on the Zschopau, and the industrial boom in Meinsberg began. In 1921 a memorial in honor of those who fell in the First World War was erected at the entrance to the village. It consists of a large boulder and has a cast iron plaque with 34 names on it. On July 1, 1950, Neuhausen was incorporated into Meinsberg. In 1973 the community of Meinsberg was incorporated into Ziegra. As part of the merger of the municipalities of Ziegra and Gebersbach-Knobelsdorf, Meinsberg became part of the new municipality of Ziegra-Knobelsdorf .
