As Bruges master of Ursulalegende , Master of Bruges Ursulalegende or (Flemish) Master of the Ursula legend , the late Gothic painter from Flanders referred to the 1485 altarpieces with scenes from the Ursula painted -Legende. The work was commissioned for the monastery of the Black Sisters in Bruges and is now in the Groeninge Museum in Bruges.

Creative period

The city of Bruges served as the background for some of the works of the Bruges master and this allows the images ascribed to him to be dated through the buildings shown.

Plant (selection), workshop and successor

The Bruges master and his workshop or his successors are attributed a few more works through style comparison, which can be found in other museums such as B. in Brussels, Detroit or London as well as privately owned. The master is very close to the style of Rogier van der Weyden and Hans Memling .

Bruges Ursula legend

To distinguish it from other artists of the Middle Ages not known by name, such as the Cologne Master of the Ursula Legend , whose emergency name in art history was also derived from an Ursula legend as the main work, the Master of the Ursula Legend from Bruges should add the addition of Master of the Bruges Ursula- Legend .
