A panel painter and illuminator who was not known by name and who worked in Paris between 1450 and 1480 is referred to as the Master of Dreux Budé (fr. Maitre de Dreux Budé ) . He got his emergency name after his triptych , donated by Dreux Budé, Vogt of Paris from 1452-1456.

The middle part of the altar can be found today in the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, the two wings with the pictures of the donors in other collections. His style is strongly influenced by that of Rogier van der Weyden .

The master's work shows the revival of painting in Paris by clients from the French aristocracy after the withdrawal of the English troops at the end of the Hundred Years War , during which the few remaining illuminators such as the Bedford master worked for English clients.

identification

It is proposed to see the Flemish painter André d'Ypres , who was active in France around the same time , in the Master of Dreux Budé . It is also suggested that the Master of Dreux Budé could be the painter of the crucifixion in the Parlement de Paris of 1452.

influence

The Master of Coëtivy may have emerged from the school or environment of the Master of Dreux Budé .
