from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The master of Coëtivy is a book illuminator and painter who worked in medieval France between 1455 and 1477 . The artist, who is not known by name, got his emergency name after a book of hours he painted for Olivier de Coëtivy and his wife Marie de Valois, daughter of Charles VII .

In addition to the illumination of manuscripts, the Master of Coëtivy is assigned works for clients from around the French royal court in a wide variety of formats, such as B. Paintings, tapestry designs, and stained glass . More than 30 works from his hand have been preserved, five of which are illustrated editions of the Consolatio philosophiae ( The Consolation of Philosophy ) by Boethius and the panel painting of the awakening of Lazarus. Stylistically, his work may have been influenced by the school or the environment of the master of Dreux Budé .
