Master of the Imola Triptych

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A medieval painter who worked in Italy in Emilia-Romagna from around 1410 to 1440 is referred to as the Master of the Triptych by Imola ( Italian: Maestro del Trittico di Imola) . The artist, who is not known by name, got his emergency name after his picture of a Madonna and Child and the Saints Catherine and Peter, which came from the Cathedral of Imola . The triptych is now in the Museo di San Domenico, Pinacoteca Comunale. Typical of the master is his portrayal of a somewhat rounded baby Jesus and his almost naïve style of painting.

A few other pictures can be assigned to the master, including a Madonna and Child from 1420, now in the Pinacoteca Ferrara , and a small-format picture of a Madonna with Child and Angels from 1430, now in the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts . Another work is in the Hermitage in St. Petersburg.

The master may have worked as a miniature painter in Ferrara under the rule of Niccolò III. d'Este , Marquis of Ferrara.
