In the statutory ordinance, the areas covered up to then (theater and film / television) were expanded to include the Halle area.

Structure of the exam

The master's examination is divided into one

  • vocational and work pedagogical part,
  • cross-disciplinary part and
  • subject-specific part

Vocational and work-pedagogical examination part

The content of the vocational and work-pedagogical part corresponds to the trainer aptitude test . A trainer aptitude test that has already been passed can be fully credited.

Cross-disciplinary examination part

The cross-disciplinary part is identical for many industrial foreman exams and is used in the examination subjects

  • Basics for cost-conscious action
  • Basics for legally conscious action
  • Basics for cooperation in the company

accepted as a written exam.

Subject-specific examination part

The subject-specific part of the examination is taken in one of the following subjects:

  • stage
  • lighting
  • Hall

The following examination subjects are examined in writing in a subject-specific manner:

  • Mathematical and scientific basics
  • Technical communication
  • General industrial engineering and special industrial engineering
  • Health and safety at work
  • Fire protection and "building regulations"

Project work

Another important part of the exam is project work. In the project work, the candidate has to prove that he, as a manager, is involved in a staging or production, for example a stage, film, television or radio production, which grasps the complex, practice-oriented problems occurring from the rehearsal to the premiere, can represent, assess and solve. The project work is done as a term paper and must be presented to the examination board. Project work and presentation are the starting point for a subsequent technical discussion.

Courses to prepare for the exam

To prepare for the master craftsman's examination, courses are offered whose structure is based on the examination structure of the examination. The following subject areas and lessons are provided in the DIHK framework plan:

I. Fachrichtungsübergreifender Teil: 340 UStd.

The actual course times for the different educational institutions deviate downwards from the times in the DIHK framework plan. In some cases, courses are offered for the subject-specific part that are not differentiated according to the subject area - only the special operating technology is then offered in split form.

Master craftsman regulation 2009 with integrated specialist qualifications

Many masters work outside of theaters, studios, halls, and other permanent venues. Since 1997, many service companies have been set up that technically design and implement events - competing on a free market. For example, they carry out sound reinforcement at events - but a corresponding master craftsman examination could not be taken. Therefore, a new regulation has been drawn up, which is broadly based and should apply to masters in all areas of activity. In addition, the new regulation is no longer subject-systematic, but rather "action-oriented". This means that the subject of the master craftsman's examination is “masterful action” and not subject-systematic knowledge.

Activities in detail

Certified masters for event technology are qualified in companies of different types and tasks (e.g. theater, film and television productions, congress and conference centers, trade fairs and in other event and event companies)

  • Estimate artistic concepts, marketing concepts or other specifications of the client with regard to technical and safety-related feasibility as well as with regard to costs, to advise customers and to develop event concepts in the technical area,
  • To structure project processes and to design technical solutions, especially in the areas of electrical systems for event technology, lighting technology, sound technology, stage technology, scene construction, rigging and media technology, taking into account legal framework conditions, costs and security,
  • To control projects, to guide employees, to check technical facilities and to control, document and account for work carried out,
  • Assess and ensure the safety of the audience, participants and staff,
  • Plan training and train trainees on the job

Admission requirements

Anyone who has a qualification as a specialist in event technology and then at least one year of professional experience or who can provide evidence of a comparable qualification is admitted to the master event technology examination. Other evidence, such as attending a preparatory course, is not required.

Structure of the exam

The exam consists of the exam parts

  • "Situational task"
  • "Examination project" and the
  • Instructor aptitude test.

Instructor aptitude test

The requirements of the trainer aptitude test are no longer included in the regulation. You will be checked according to the applicable trainer aptitude ordinance.

Examination part "Situational task"

In the “Situational Task” part of the examination, a typical job situation (specific event project) is described in which the foremen should act. The ordinance provides for four areas of action:

  • Event concept
  • Event planning
  • Technical management of events
  • Security management

In each of these areas of activity, the test participants should prepare documents that correspond to professional practice. In addition, the test participants should give a presentation in the “Event Concept” area and a technical discussion in the “Safety Management” area.

Examination part "Exam project"

A project report is to be prepared as a term paper on an event project in which the candidate was significantly involved. The contents of the prepared project report must be presented to the examination board. This is followed by a technical discussion based on the project report and the presentation.

Implementation in the place of assembly ordinances

The "new" foreman was included in Section 39 of the Model Meeting Place Ordinance in 2010. This regulation was implemented in the assembly regulations of the states of Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Hamburg, Hesse and Lower Saxony. Certified masters can have an authorization card issued in these federal states and can thus work nationwide.

Educational activities to prepare for the exam

In the meantime, educational measures for the “new” master are also offered. According to the specifications of the examination, real event projects (if possible) are processed in these courses, documents (e.g. event concepts and planning documents) are created, presented and reflected on in technical discussions.

The United Service Union (ver.di) has created a handout to support the training participants, training providers and examination boards.

Education policy controversy

The "Ordinance on the examination for the recognized advanced training qualification Certified Master of Event Technology / Certified Master of Event Technology" was drawn up by experts appointed by the VPLT, EVVC, DTHG, ARD / ZDF and ver.di. These associations also gave their consent to this regulation. The new master's regulation was rejected by the German stage association. The DTHG and ARD / ZDF also later distanced themselves from the new master regulations. The reason for the rejection is the lack of subjects.

Because of this controversy, the new regulation was only issued by the BMBF for a limited time until December 31, 2018, the existing regulation was also limited to December 31, 2018. Because of the time limits for both ordinances, a new regulation must be made by December 31, 2018.
