Meister von Raigern: Christ Carrying the Cross (Passion Altar, Altar von Raigern (Rajhrad), around 1415-1420)

With master of Raigern or master of the altar of Raigern or master of Raigerner altar ( Czech : Mistr rajhradského Oltare) is a painter of the Czech Gothic designated.

The artist, who is not known by name, gets his emergency name from the panel paintings he created, which became known in art history as the Altar of Raigern (Rajhrad) . The pictures are said to have been taken around 1420 or 1430. For a long time they were seen as a “chronological fixed point” for the dating of other works of Bohemian painting of the 15th century, but their exact dates have been taken up again in more recent times.

The style of Master von Raigern shows the mutual cultural exchange between the Bohemian and Viennese regions, but also the emergence of a typical Bohemian painting school , a style that can also be found in Master von Wittingau .
