The 2001/02 season was the twelfth season of the Meistriliiga , the highest Estonian ice hockey division . Tartu Välk became champion in 494 .

mode

In the main round, the nine teams were divided into two groups, with the Tallinn group with six teams being twice as large as the Viru group. Each team played against each opponent in a home and away game. The top three teams in the Tallinn group and all three teams in the Viru group qualified for the final round. Their four best-placed teams qualified for the playoffs in which the champions were played. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
