Mekhi Becton (* 18th April 1999 in Highland Springs , Virginia ) is an American American football poker players on the position of offensive tackles for the New York Jets in the National Football League (NFL). He previously played college football in Louisville and was selected by the Jets in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft .

High school

Becton attended Highland Springs High School in Highland Springs, Virginia. He was considered a three-star talent and was listed as No. 43 in the Offensive Tackles and No. 405 overall in the 247Sports Composite. Becton was recruited to college football by 31 schools, but had limited choices to five schools by February 1, 2017, National Signing Day: Louisville , Virginia , Virginia Tech , Michigan, and Oregon . Although heavily courted by Virginia, he finally chose Louisville on signing day.

college

In his freshman season in 2017, Becton played 13 games and started in 11 for the Cardinals in the tackle position. For the first 4 games of the season, Becton was the best-rated freshman in the country by Pro Football Focus. In the first 7 games he was the best pass blocker in the ACC, allowing only 6 pressures in 312 snaps.

Named the Starting Tackle for the 2018 season, Becton started every game of the season, bringing his total number of games started to 23 by the end of the season.

For the 2019 season, Becton was reappointed starting tackle. After completing the regular season, he was elected to the first team All-ACC. Becton decided to forego his senior season and sit out Louisville's bowl game and signed up for the 2020 NFL Draft.

Becton was drafted eleventh in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the New York Jets.
