The Melbourne Bluff is a 385 m high rock cliff on the north side of Heard Island in the southern Indian Ocean . It rises from icy slopes 2.1 km south of Cape Bidlingmaier .
Participants in a campaign by the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions surveyed the cliff in 1948. They named it so because its east-northeast orientation points directly towards Melbourne , location of the headquarters of the expedition series.
