Melchiorre Vidal

Melchiorre Vidal ( 1837 in Barcelona - 1911 in Milan ) was a Spanish opera singer ( tenor ) and singing teacher .

Life

Vidal's career began in Spain around 1860, but he also worked in Italy for around 25 years. He sang mostly lyrical parts of bel canto , especially from Verdi operas.

After his singing career he worked as a singing teacher. He taught, for example, Rosina Storchio , Esperanza Clasenti , Ludwig Hess , Graziella Pareto , Lucrezia Bori and Elvira de Hidalgo . The latter was so enthusiastic about his skills that when she was teaching singing herself, she used his methods to train Maria Callas .
