The Mellona Rocks are a group of cliff rocks in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . In the Nelson Strait they are 3 km southeast of Newell Point on Robert Island .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named them in 1961 after the British sealer Mellona from Newcastle upon Tyne , who operated in the waters around the southern Shetland Islands between 1821 and 1822.
