Melocactus concinnus is a species of the genus Melocactus in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet concinnus means 'graceful, well-formed'.
description
Melocactus concinnus grows with gray-green glaucoma , depressed spherical shoots that reach heights of 8 to 13 centimeters with diameters of 11 to 16 centimeters. There are eight to twelve ribs . The initially red to black thorns later turn yellow and, with the exception of the tips, are drowned out in gray. The single central spine is curved upwards and 1 to 1.9 inches long. There are six to eight recurved radial spines that are occasionally hooked at the tips and have a length of 1.5 to 2.6 centimeters. The cephalium , which consists of fine, dense, more or less light pink-red bristles and cream-colored wool , is up to 5.5 centimeters high and has a diameter of 4 to 9 centimeters.
The deep pink flowers are 2 to 2.3 inches long and 0.6 to 1.2 inches in diameter. The light lilac-pink to pink-colored fruits are 1.3 to 2.2 centimeters long.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Melocactus concinnus is widespread in northeastern Brazil .
It was first described in 1972 by Albert Frederik Hendrik Buining and Arnold J. Brederoo (1917–1999). A nomenclatory synonym is Melocactus pruinosus var. Concinnus (Buining & Brederoo) PJBraun (1988).
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
