Albert Frederik Hendrik Buining

Albert Frederik Hendrik Buining (born August 25, 1901 in Groningen ; † May 9, 1976 ) was a Dutch botanist . Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Buining ".

Live and act

Buining has made a name for itself in describing South American cactus plants . In 1950 he was a founding member of the International Organization for Succulent Research (IOS) in Zurich and for 28 years (from 1940 to 1968) president of the Dutch cactus and succulent plant Succulenta . Together with John D. Donald and Friedrich Ritter, he described and rearranged the genus Rebutia in the 1960s . In the 1970s he did the same for the genus Discocactus . Buining also made contributions to the loose-leaf collection The Cacti, published by Hans Krainz from 1956 .

Taxa named after Buining

In recognition of his services, the genus Buiningia Buxb. named after him (today coincides with Coleocephalocereus ). Parodia buiningii (Buxb.) NPTaylor (or: Notocactus buiningii Buxb. Or Ritterocactus buiningii (Buxb.) Doweld ), Rebutia buiningiana Rausch and Uebelmannia buiningii Donald are also named after Buining .
