Parodia buiningii is a species of Parodia in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet buiningii honors the Dutch cactus lover and specialist in Brazilian cacti Albert Frederik Hendrik Buining .

description

Parodia buiningii grows individually. The grass-green depressed spherical shoots reach heights of growth of up to 8 centimeters and a diameter of 12 centimeters. The top of the shoot is not woolly. The roughly 16 thin and slightly humped ribs are up to 2 centimeters high. The elongated, initially woolly and later bald areoles on them are sunk under the humps. The four crossed yellow thorns have a darker base. They have lengths of 2 to 3 centimeters.

The yellow flowers reach a diameter of 8 centimeters and lengths of up to 7 centimeters. Your pericarpel is covered with brown wool and needle-like bristles. The scar is red. The hairy fruits are up to 3 inches long. The fruits contain dull black seeds that are humped.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Parodia buiningii is common in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul near Santana do Livramento and in Uruguay in the Rivera department .

The first description as Notocactus buiningii by Franz Buxbaum was published in 1968. Nigel Paul Taylor placed the species in 1987 in the genus Parodia . A nomenclature synonym is Ritterocactus buiningii (Buxb.) Doweld (1999).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Critically Endangered (CR) ", d. H. listed as critically endangered.
