Coordinates: 32 ° 2 ′ S , 115 ° 48 ′ E The City of Melville is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Western Australia . Melville belongs to the metropolis of Perth , the capital of Western Australia. The area is 54 km² and has about 98,000 inhabitants (2016).
Melville is located southwest of the confluence of the Swan and Canning Rivers, about six to 14 kilometers southeast of Perth city center . The seat of the City Council is in the Booragoon district, where about 5500 inhabitants live (2016).

The Melville Council has 13 members. The 12 Councilors are elected by the residents of the six wards (two each from Applecross-Mt Pleasant, Bicton-Attadale, Bull Creek-Leeming, Palmyra-Melvill-Willagee, University and City Ward). The mayor (mayor) and chairman of the council is elected by all residents of the LGA.
