Memelland unit list

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Memelland Unity List ( MEL ) was the only party of the German majority population in Memelland from 1935 onwards . It existed until 1938. The previous parties Memelland People's Party , Social Democratic Party of the Memel Region and Memelland Workers' Party were merged into it. The previously largest party, the Memelland Agricultural Party , had already been banned in 1934.

It was not a party in the strict sense of the word, but an association that only became active before the two elections in 1935 and 1938. In addition to the German majority, a number of ethnic Lithuanians also voted for this list.
