August Baldchus

August Baldschus (Augustas Baldžius) (born October 18, 1883 in the Heydekrug district , Prussian Lithuania ; † May 12, 1952 in Bad Segeberg ) was a German politician in Memelland and district administrator in the Heydekrug district.

Life

Baldžius was a farmer. Politically, he was a member of the Memelland People's Party . For this he was 1925-1930 member of the Seimelis , the Memelländisches Landtag. He was elected as the list leader in the Heydekrug constituency. In 1935 he was re-  elected to the Landtag - this time for the Memelland Unity List - and he was President of Parliament. He was for the first time from January 12th to November 8th, 1926 a member of the government of the autonomous Memel region called Landesdirektorium . Baldžius was from November 28, 1935 to January 7, 1939 the last government of the Memel region, which was based on the parliament. 1930–1935 he was district administrator in the district of Heydekrug. On April 1, 1939, after the Memelland had come back to the German Reich, Baldžius became a member of the NSDAP ( membership number 7.162.388). In 1944 he fled the Red Army . After that he lived in Westerrade .
