The Memphis Xplorers were an arena football team from Southaven, Mississippi that played in af2 . The Xplorers played their home games at the DeSoto Civic Center .

history

The Xplorers were founded in 2000 and until their dissolution in 2006 they participated in the af2, the minor league of the Arena Football League (AFL). In their history, the Xplorers were able to reach the playoffs three times and in 2005 they won the ArenaCup , the final of the af2.

Seasons 2001-2006 (af2)

After missing the playoffs in the first three years, the club was able to take part for the first time in 2004 with 10 wins and 4 losses. In the first round, the Xplorers lost against the Florida Firecats just 33:35 and were eliminated.

The big triumph then followed in the following year 2005. In the ArenaCup, the Xplorers won the title with a 41:63 win over the Louisville Fire .

After another playoff participation in 2006, in which they were eliminated in the second round, it became known that the club will dissolve at the end of the season.

Most of the spectators came with 6,286 spectators on July 24, 2004 against the Macon Knights in the stadium.

Stadion

The Xplorers played their home games in the DeSoto Civic Center, built in 1998. The 8,400-seat stadium cost around $ 35 million at the time.

In 2012 the stadium was renamed Landers Center , which today only houses the Mississippi RiverKings , a minor league ice hockey team in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL).
