Mendelssohn Quartet (Leipzig)

The Mendelssohn Quartet is a string quartet ensemble from Leipzig that was founded in 1995 as the UROS Quartet.

History and cast

The quartet was founded in the course of a postgraduate course at the Leipzig University of Music , which it completed in 2000. The members studied with Dietmar Hallmann . On the occasion of a Mendelssohn memorial concert in November 1997, the quartet was renamed in honor of the composer. Since then the Mendelssohn Quartet a. a. in the Gewandhaus in Leipzig , in Potsdam , Höxter , Nossen , Heilbronn and in Staßfurt .

The current line-up consists of:

  • Gunnar Harms, violin
  • Sebastian Ude, violin
  • Susanne Raßbach, violoncello

The Leipzig Mendelssohn Quartet was awarded first prize in the chamber music competition of the Leipzig University of Music. The quartet reached the final of the competition of the German universities in Würzburg.
