Jenny Downham (* 1964 in London ) is a British author and former actress .

Life

Jenny Downham worked as an actress in an independent theater company for eight years, touring the country and performing in youth centers , prisons and clinics before starting to write. She lives in London with her two sons. Before I Die is her first novel . In it, she describes the 16-year-old Tessa's fight against leukemia . Before I die it was also published as an audio book in Germany , read by Anna Thalbach .

Awards

Jenny Downham won the Branford Boase Award in 2008 . She was also shortlisted for the 2007 Guardian Award and the 2008 Lancashire Children's Book of the Year . She was also nominated for the 2008 Carnegie Medal . In 2008 her book was ranked among the ALA Best Books for Young Adults and was shortlisted for the Guardian Award.
