The menhir of Bollendorf (also known as Druidenstein or Eckstein ) is a menhir near Bollendorf in the Eifel district of Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate .

location

The stone is located northeast of Bollendorf and west of Ferschweiler on the Ferschweiler Plateau, about 1.5–2 km south of the highest point. He stands at the intersection of two forest paths on the edge of a field. The menhir sometimes served as a corridor boundary, from which the name "corner stone" is derived. 1.3 km north are the Fraubillenkreuz and the Menhirs of Nusbaum , 2.7 km and 3.6 km northeast are the Langenstein and the Druidenstein near Holsthum . In addition, there were probably four or five other menhirs on the Ferschweiler plateau that no longer exist today. It is unclear whether all these menhirs were part of a larger complex, especially since there is clearly no line of sight between the menhir of Bollendorf and the Fraubillenkreuz as well as the druid stone of Holsthum.

description

The menhir consists of Lias - sandstone . It has a height of 220 cm, a width of 157 cm and a depth of 60 cm. The stone is plate-shaped, slightly curved and has an approximately rectangular cross-section. Its top is flattened. One narrow side has a grooving groove in the upper area. Furthermore, several crosses and letters are carved on the stone.
