The caprolactam plant railway ( Russian Узкоколейная железная дорога завода "Капролактам" , Uskokoleinaja schelesnaja doroga sawoda "Caprolactam" ) was a light railway of caprolactam -Werke in Datschni ( Russian Дачный ) at Dzerzhinsk in the Russian Oblast Nizhny Novgorod .

history

The narrow-gauge railway with a gauge of 750 mm was in operation from 1939 to 2013. It had a length of 5 km, or 8 km including all side tracks. She was the only narrow gauge - works railway to transport salt in Russia.

The narrow-gauge railway transported salt from the ship landing stage to the caprolactam plants. Caprolactam is a lactam and raw material for the production of polyamide 6 (Perlon), which is produced worldwide on a megaton scale. The narrow-gauge railway first drove on the property of the jetty, then along a field, crossed the Volosjanicha / Sinjutschka river ( Russian Волосяниха / Синючка ) and then drove to the caprolactam works. The locomotive depot was located on the site of the facility. The narrow-gauge railway drove back and forth three to four times a day, depending on how much salt was to be delivered to the system. In 2013 the narrow-gauge railway was dismantled due to the closure of the salt company.
