The locomotives of the series ТУ8 (German transcription TU8) of the Soviet Railways (SŽD) are narrow-gauge diesel locomotives . They were developed from 1982 to 1987 by the Kambarka machine works and are intended for freight and shunting services on routes with gauges from 750 to 1067 millimeters.
Manufacturing history
The Kambarka machine factory in Kambarka delivered a test diesel locomotive in 1987 with a V-shaped six-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine called ЯМЗ -236M, a frame that was reinforced compared to the SŽD series ТУ7 and a few changes in the superstructure. The diesel locomotive received the designation ТУ8.0001 . In 1987 some prototypes were delivered, in 1988 serial production began as a replacement for the ТУ6А series . To date 531 units have been built, five of which have been given different construction numbers. Four copies, the machines with the inventory numbers 0356 to 0359 , were made for the 1000 mm gauge for Vietnam and ran as a series ТУ8З with the numbering according to the usual ТУ8 . The ТУ8.0107 diesel locomotive , built in October 1987, was experimentally equipped with a fuel consumption indicator. It was tested on a narrow-gauge railway near Arkhangelsk . The modified driving switch proved to be useful when driving on longer stretches of road, but was not taken over into series production.
Model variants
On the basis of the ТУ8 diesel locomotive were also built:
- the diesel locomotive energy apparatus SŽD series ТУ6СПА for the transfer and energy supply of construction trains,
- the diesel trolley SŽD series ТУ8Г , equipped with a freight platform and a crane,
- the SŽD series ТУ8П passenger trolley for the transport of engineering personnel and workers.
