Menhir of Crobane

The menhir of Crobane stands in a meadow about 40 m west of the north-south running Crohill Road, between Newry and Mayobridge in County Down in Northern Ireland .

On old OS maps the place is called "Giant's Grave" ( German  "Riesengrab" ). This suggests that it could be the rest of a larger structure. However, there are no traces of it in the immediate vicinity.

The bottom roughly rectangular phallic Menhir ( English Standing Stone ) tapers in the upper area gradually to a point. It is about 1.5 m high, slightly weathered and has a base width of about 0.75 m.

Nearby are the Christianized (cross-carved) menhir of Edenmore, the menhir of Barnmeen and the 2.6 m high menhir of Tamnaharry or Cloghadda.
