Menhir of Crocemuzza

The menhir of Crocemuzza or Delle Franite end of the 19th century by Cosimo De Giorgi (1842-1922) in Franite district, "at the site, which was marked as Crocemozza" outside Maglie in the province of Lecce in the Region of Salento in Discovered south of Apulia in Italy .

The 4.3 m high menhir , demolished in 1958, with a cross section of 44 × 34 cm, was later rebuilt. The monolith , protected by a low metal fence , which is fixed in its original position in the rock, is carved with crosses .

The 79 Apulian menhirs are partly geometric and very slender (Casamassima) with heights of up to 4.7 m ( de lu Chiofilu near Martano). Others have anthropomorphic or dew-cross-like ( Menhir of Vardare in Diso ) proportions.
