The menhir of Mollet

The menhir of Mollet (or Estàtua-menhir del Pla de les Pruneres ) is a statue menhir . It was discovered in 2009 while building a car park at a depth of around 8.0 meters in Pla de les Pruneres near Mollet del Vallès , in the Comarca Vallès Oriental north of Barcelona in Catalonia in Spain .

The menhir de Mollet, which is somewhat pointed at the top, is 4.9 m high and thus the largest statue menhir of all. It is 0.68 m wide and weighs around 6.2 tons. It is made of arkose , a sedimentary rock that is not in the immediate vicinity and probably comes from the coastal area. One side shows a typical human face in relief, while abstract arched motifs are engraved on the opposite side. Statuary menhirs originated in the Neolithic between 3300 and 2200 BC. The region is home to the statues of Ca l'Estrada and the five statues of Reguers de Seró .
