Menhir of Ussano

The menhir of Ussano described by Cosimo De Giorgi (1842–1922) before 1916 stands on a hill, near the old farmhouse of Ussano, behind the masseria of the same name (country house), near Cavallino in the province of Lecce in the Salent region in the south from Apulia in Italy .

The 2.5 m high monolith with a cross section of 41 × 32 cm is now in its original location, which is attached to a rocky surface.

The 79 Apulian menhirs are partly geometric and very slender (Casamassima) with heights of up to 4.7 m ( de lu Chiofilu near Martano). Others have anthropomorphic or dew-cross-like ( Menhir of Vardare in Diso ) proportions.
