Menhirs in Châtillonnais

The menhirs in Châtillonnais testify to the Neolithic settlement of the Châtillonnais region in the Côte-d'Or department in France .

The Châtillonnais attracted the attention of archaeologists mainly with Vix , the Lingons and Vertilum, places from the Hallstatt and Iron Ages . The settlement is older, as u. a. three menhirs classified as Monument historique .

  1. The Menhir du Cheval gris ( German  gray mold ) is 2.3 × 1.6 m in size. It is located in Chambain ( ), near the tumulus of Bosse-de-Menley, and since 1923 as a monument historique classified.
  2. Originally located in the woods of Vaupinard in Montmoyen, the menhir of Châtillon-sur-Seine was transported by the Comte d'Ivory to the park of Mauvilly and then to the park of the town hall of Châtillon-sur-Seine ( ). It has been classified as a Monument historique since 1923 .
  3. The menhir de la tête de chevau (or menhir la grande borne ) in a field south of the Ferme de Rieppes in Coulmier-le-Sec ( ). It has been classified as a Monument historique since 1889 .
