Mentes
Mentes ( Greek Μέντης ) is in Greek mythology the son of Anchialos and king of the Taphier .
Mentes was Odysseus's guest . In the first book of Homer's Odyssey , the goddess Athena takes the form of Mentes to encourage Odysseus' son Telemachus to courage in his dispute with the suitors. First, she advises him to call a meeting. He should then visit King Nestor in Pylos and King Menelaus in Sparta to inquire about his father's whereabouts. After his return, however, he should kill the suitors - either with ruse or publicly.
