Meppen is a settlement on community-free area ( Unincorporated Community ) in the south of Calhoun County in the US -amerikanischen State Illinois . The place with around 200 inhabitants was named after the small German town Meppen in the Emsland .

Meppen is located in the US state of Illinois on a peninsula between the Mississippi River and the Illinois River in Calhoun County .

history

The community was founded in 1847 by Henry Kiel. The original population consisted for the most part of emigrants from the Emsland Börger . Until 1918, German was the common language in the community. In the 1960s, the place was merged with Brussels to form one administrative district.

Personalities

Victor Hermann Balke , the former Bishop of Crookston , was born in Meppen, Illinois.
